Maeve Dewar was born in the Eastern Transvaal in 1948. She studied at the Johannesburg School of Art and Michaelis School of Art, Cape Town .
She did a 6 year apprenticeship under the late Christiaan Prosser who was a
graduate of the London School of Art.
Maeve has had 11 Solo exhibitions nationally and many various group exhibitions. She has traveled extensively throughout the country teaching and giving workshops, struggling always not to keep bread on the table but more importantly paints, brushes and canvases.
Her works are represented in South Africa, USA, UK, Australia and Europe.
She works in all mediums but over the past few years she has been experimenting and perfecting new water colour techniques. The painting on view “Oriental Poppies ” is one of her latest water colours using this technique and was part of a recent exhibition at the Rust and Vrede Gallery in
Durbanville.
She lives and works from her studio in Vermont, Hermanus
