Capetonian, educated at Herschel School, and St Andrew’s University, Scotland, Rosie Sturgis trained at the Cape Technical and Art School and the Ruth Prowse Art School, in Cape Town from 1968. She had private tuition under June te Water, finally graduating and completing her studies at the Sir John Cass Art School, North London Polytechnic in 1986.

Sturgis has exhibited widely in South Africa, and in Britain. She has participated in group and solo exhibitions in Johannesburg and Cape Town. Her bronze wildlife castings are widely accredited.

Awards included the Heredities Award presented by the Commonwealth Institute, London, 1980.
